A project to make repairs to two locally owned bridges, one in Millcreek Township and the other in Springfield Township, in Erie County is scheduled to start soon.
The project will start on the bridge that carries Evans Road over Mill Creek in Millcreek Township. It is located just south of intersection of W. Gore Road (Route 4028).
Work will include repairs to the bridge deck and barriers and the installation of a waterproof layer. The asphalt roadway on both sides of the bridge will also be repaired and safety updates will be made to the guiderail, pavement markings, and roadway markers.
Construction at Evans Road is expected to begin March 31, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by July 2025.
One lane of the bridge will remain open throughout the project and traffic will be controlled with a stop sign on the south end of the bridge and a yield sign at the north end. Motorists may encounter also encounter temporary lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers.
The existing concrete bridge on Evans Road was built in 1968 and is owned by Millcreek Township. It is classified as fair condition. Approximately 30 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
Once the Evans Road Bridge work is complete, similar repairs and updates will be made to the bridge that carries Old Lake Road over Raccoon Creek near Raccoon Park in Springfield Township. Work at this location is expected in start in July 2025 and to be completed in September 2025.
Work on the Old Lake Road bridge will require a detour, which will be posted using Elmwood Road, Route 5, and Eagley Road (Route 3009). It is expected to be in place for approximately two months.
The existing concrete bridge on Old Lake Road was built in 1992 and is owned by Springfield Township. It is classified as fair condition. Approximately 80 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
The contractor is Thomas Construction of Grove City, PA. The contract cost for work on both bridges is $784,754, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
