Work Begins April 1

Minor Delays Expected on Route 56 in West St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Beginning April 1 for Bridge Replacement Project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists to expect minor delays beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2025, on Route 56 in West St. Clair Township, Bedford County, for a bridge replacement project.

The Route 56 Gordon Creek Bridge Project includes the replacement of two bridge-structures in West St. Clair Township, Bedford County, with precast reinforced concrete box culverts.

Wen-Brooke Contracting, Inc., Three Springs, Pa., is the contractor for the $2,456,495.24 project which will include replacement of the bridges on Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road) over Gordon Creek at the intersection of Route 4030 (Calvary Hollow Road) and over the tributary to Barefoot Run, west of Pleasantville Borough.

For the bridge over Gordon Creek, traffic will be reduced to 40 miles per hour on a temporary roadway with minimal traffic delays. For the bridge over the Barefoot Run tributary, the project will be constructed utilizing half-width construction and temporary traffic signals will limit traffic to a single direction of travel at a time. Both projects, approximately 1.25 miles apart, will be completed simultaneously.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
