I-83 south and ramp to I-283 south to be closed in Dauphin County, lane restrictions on I-81 south in Cumberland County
Harrisburg, PA – Motorists traveling in south central Pennsylvania this coming weekend are advised there will impacts to several busy interstate highways in the Harrisburg region due to scheduled road work. This work, which is expected to be performed Friday night through Monday morning, could cause traffic backlogs and delays.
Impacts include the closure of southbound Interstate 83, including the ramp from I-83 south to I-283 south in Dauphin County, and lane restrictions on southbound Interstate 81 from the Route 11/15 Interchange to about a mile north of Exit 61 (Route 944/Wertzville Road) in Cumberland County.
On southbound I-83, contractor JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is scheduled to mill, pave, and perform bridge repairs between Exit 47 and Exit 45.
Weather permitting, this work will begin at 8:00 PM Friday, August 4, and is expected to be completed by 6:00 AM Monday, August 7. Detours will be in place for southbound I-83 and southbound I-283.
Motorists traveling south on I-83 should take Exit 47 (Route 322 East/Hershey/Eisenhower Blvd.). Those continuing south on I-83 should bear right at the ramp to Paxton Street to access southbound I-83.
Those accessing southbound I-283 should proceed past the Paxton Street ramp on Eisenhower Boulevard, continue to the signalized intersection with Route 441, then turn left to access I-283.
On southbound I-81, contractor New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is scheduled to perform concrete patching from the Route 11/15 Interchange to about a mile north of Exit 61 (Route 944/Wertzville Road) in Cumberland County.
This work will also begin at 8:00 PM Friday and is expected be completed by 6:00 AM Monday. Traffic on southbound I-81 will be reduced from three lanes to one lane each night from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Two lanes of traffic will be open all other hours.
Both contractors will work around the clock through the entire weekend.
Motorists are advised there may be delays, especially during peak travel hours.
