Resurfacing Project to Begin on Route 24 (Mount Zion Road) in Springettsbury Township, York County

Project includes improvements on Sherman Street and Mundis Mill Road

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a resurfacing project on Route 24 (Mount Zion Road) in Springettsbury Township, York County, is scheduled to begin this month. This project also includes work on sections of Sherman Street Extension (Route 1033), and Mundis Mill Road (Route 1012).

Weather permitting, work is expected to begin Monday, May 22. There will be lane restrictions in place with flaggers providing traffic control from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. There may be night paving operations later in the project.

This project consists of resurfacing the existing roadway using Superpave wearing and scratch courses, milling, base replacement, minor drainage improvements, guide rail replacement and ADA ramp updates, along with other miscellaneous construction on Route 24 (Mount Zion Road) from just north of Pleasant Valley Road to just north of Sherman Street Extension, Sherman Street Extension (Route 1033) from Route 24 to just south of Mundis Mill Road, and a short section of Mundis Mill Road (Route 1012) from Sherman Street west approximately 0.10 miles.

This work is part of a project that includes resurfacing, milling in select areas, base repairs, new guiderail, drainage upgrades, signing, pavement markings, bridge maintenance on the structure spanning Conococheague Creek and replacement of the box culvert. 

JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs, PA, is the prime contractor on this $1,919,506 project. 

All work is expected to be completed by December 6, 2023.

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones for their safety as well as for the safety of the road crews
