PennDOT Announces Online Plans Display for Project to Relocate South 22nd Street Bridge over Quittapahilla Creek in Lebanon County

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 8-0 invites the public to an online plan display regarding the project to relocate the South 22nd Street bridge over Quittapahilla Creek in Lebanon County.

South 22nd Street is located between Chestnut Street and Route 422 in North Cornwall, North Lebanon and West Lebanon townships, Lebanon County. The project proposes to realign 22nd Street at the Chestnut Street intersection and construct a new 22nd Street bridge downstream approximately 150-feet. The new bridge will include a 10-foot pedestrian access for the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, Segment 6C.

The existing structure and roadway approaches will be removed from within the floodplain limits. Pedestrian improvements will be included in the project. A 4-way stop is proposed at Chestnut Street and South 22nd Street. During construction, vehicle traffic will be detoured, while pedestrian traffic will use the existing bridge crossing.

Pedestrians will utilize the existing bridge crossing during construction. Vehicles will be detoured on Chestnut Street, South 16th Street and Route 422 for a detour length of 1.26 miles.

This project will be coordinated with an adjacent township project that will improve parking facilities for the Lebanon Valley Motorcycle Club. Additionally, a floodplain restoration project led by the Lebanon County Stormwater Consortium will be incorporated into the project to continue the restoration downstream of the proposed structure. This element of the project was previously permitted and will restore the floodplain to its historic pre-development condition.

Information including an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website clicking on Public Meetings listed under the Resources heading, and choosing the Lebanon County box then the tile marked South 22nd Street Bridge Over Quittapahilla Creek.
