Route 22/322 Bridge Preservation Work Starts Next Week in Juniata County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting motorists that bridge preservation work will get underway next week along Route 22/322, east of the Port Royal exit.

Starting Monday, June 26, crews will undertake repair and rehabilitation work on the eastbound and westbound bridges on Route 22/322 that span Doe Run Road (Route 2003), east of the Port Royal exit. Motorists will find each direction reduced to a single lane of traffic as this work takes place. Message boards and channelizing devices will alert drivers to the lane restrictions. Additionally, traffic on Doe Run Road could be impacted as work progresses.

This work is the first phase of a 2-year project to repair six bridges on Route 22/322. Work at the Doe Run Road location will last through the fall. Work on eastbound and westbound bridges spanning Route 35 and Cedar Springs Road (Route 2006) will take place in 2024.

Structure work includes latex overlays, deck replacements, approach slabs repair/replacements, pier repairs, jacking of the bridge superstructures, and substructure repairs. Construction work includes asphalt paving, guide rail installation, piping and inlet installation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.

HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $11.6 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent.

Motorists are encouraged to "Know Before They Go" by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
