Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work on a bridge replacement project along Route 2005 (Long/School Street) in Gregg Township, Centre County, started today, May 5. The bridge spans Sinking Creek and replacing it will improve its overall condition rating to good.
The contractor was connecting waterline off the roadway today and will be again tomorrow, which will have minimal, if any impact on traffic. PennDOT will close the bridge on Thursday, May 8, and implement a detour using Long Street, Route 2012 (Water Street), and Route 2008 (Sinking Creek Road). While the detour is in place, Sinking Creek Road will be reduced to one lane north of the bridge with temporary traffic signals in place to manage traffic flow through the work zone. There will also be an eight-foot width restriction and a 40-foot length restriction on Sinking Creek Road for the project's duration.
Overall work on the project includes demolishing the existing box beam bridge, building its replacement I-beam bridge, paving the approaches, installing guide rail and roadway signage, improving drainage, painting lines, and miscellaneous construction. Nestlerode Contracting Company, Inc., of Lock Haven, PA, is the contractor on this $2.8 million project. PennDOT anticipates them completing the project in mid-November, but all work is weather-dependent.
