Work will start soon on a $372,000 project to improve safety and accessibility for bicyclists in the City of Erie, Erie County.
The project, which is being done through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the City of Erie, includes the creation of bike lanes on nearly two miles of Greengarden Road and Greengarden Boulevard from 12th Street to 38th Street in the City of Erie. Work consists of drainage upgrades and bike-safe inlet grates, line painting, sign installation, and pavement markings for bike lanes, also known as sharrows.
Work is expected to start June 10, 2024, weather permitting, and to be completed in September 2024.
There will be limited disruptions to traffic during the project, but motorists may encounter short-term lane restrictions and traffic controlled by flaggers.
The contractor is CriLon Corp., of Somerset, PA. The contract cost is $372,222.55, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
