PennDOT, Safety Partners Host Bike Rodeo in City of Titusville, Crawford County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and various safety partners hosted a free children's bicycle rodeo today in the City of Titusville, Crawford County.

The rodeo took place in the parking lot outside of Titusville City Hall. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 participated in the rodeo, which was designed to increase their interest in bicycling, educate them on proper safety requirements, and instill safe biking habits.

Bike and helmet inspections were conducted by the Titusville Police Department, while a free hot dog lunch was provided for everyone in attendance by State Rep. R. Lee James.

Medals were awarded to top three cyclists in two age groups. Taking home first place in the 5 to 8 age group was 8-year-old Moira Favreau of Titusville. Second place went to Allison Burford, 4, of Oil City. Hazel Helmbold, 5, of Titusville finished third.

Zoey Helmbold, 12, of Titusville, placed first among the 9 to 12-year-olds, followed by Sydney Helmbold in second place.

Hazel Helmbold and 7-year-old AJ Burford of Oil City were awarded bicycles through a random drawing. The bikes were donated by Titusville Methodist Church.

The event was made possible by additional support from the Titusville Area Trails Association (TATA) and Titusville Renaissance, Inc. (TRI).
