Project to Preserve Two Culverts in Erie County to Start Soon

A $255,000 project to preserve two culverts, one in Harborcreek Township and the other in Summit Township, in Erie County is scheduled to start soon.

One culvert carries Route 430 (Station Road) over Mitchell Run in Harborcreek Township. It is located on approximately a half mile east of the Interstate 90 interchange. The existing concrete/masonry arch culvert was built in 1949 and is classified as poor condition. Approximately 3,700 vehicles a day drive on the roadway in that area, on average.

The other culvert carries Robison Road (Route 4024) over a branch of Walnut Creek in Summit Township. It is located between the intersection with Cherry Street and the intersection with Parson Road. The existing metal pipe culvert was installed in 1951 and is classified as fair condition. Approximately 4,600 vehicles a day drive on the roadway in that area, on average.

Work will include lining the existing culverts with shotcrete, a concrete and mortar mixture, to preserve and reinforce them.

Construction is expected to begin May 12, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by July 2025.

The roadways will remain open throughout the project though daytime lane closures, with traffic controlled by flaggers as needed.

The contractor is Allison Park Contractors of Gibsonia, PA. The contract cost is $255,000, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
