A project to replace roadway reflectors throughout the Northwest Region of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin on May 5, 2025.
Raised pavement markers (RPM) are reflective safety devices placed along the yellow centerlines and white edge lines of certain roadways to help motorists’ visibility in low-light conditions. The markers also create an audible rumble when struck by a vehicle’s tires to alert motorists of potential to drive outside of their lane.
When the work starts, it will focus on interstates in Mercer, Venango and Erie counties. That work is expected to be completed by May 16, 2025, at which time work will start on secondary routes with RPMs throughout District 1, which covers Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties.
All work will be performed between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM with no work on the interstates on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
The project is expected to be completed by October 2025.
Motorists may encounter moving operations or lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers.
The contractor is Green Acres Contracting Co., Inc. of Scottdale, PA. The contract cost is $341,064 and is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
