King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction activities will continue next week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and Wyoming Avenue under a $7.8 million project to replace the southbound U.S. 13 ramp (Hunting Park Avenue) over the expressway in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, February 27, through Friday, March 3, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic single lane closures with temporary slowdowns will be in place on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) in both directions between 9th Street and 16th Street for traffic control setup and temporary barrier and shielding installation on the U.S. 13 ramp bridge;
- Monday, February 27, through Friday, March 3, from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM and/or 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, sidewalk closures and a lane closure if needed will be in place on Wyoming Avenue between Broad Street (Route 611) and Old York Road for advanced construction operations to improve Wyoming Avenue for detour use; and
- Tuesday, February 28, through Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the ramp from southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) to southbound U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) will be closed and detoured 24/7 for replacement.
During the closure, southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) motorists will be directed to crossover to the local lanes approaching 2nd Street, turn right on Wyoming Avenue and left on Broad Street (Route 611) to access U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue).
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when approaching the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will remove the existing single-span, steel plate girder bridge carrying the southbound U.S. 13/Hunting Park Avenue ramp over U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) and replace the structure with a single-span, prestressed, precast concrete bridge that will provide additional vertical clearance.
Improvements under this project also include constructing retaining wall extensions on the approaches of the new bridge; performing full depth paving; and installing and constructing new sidewalk, ADA curb ramps, a new traffic signal, highway lighting, guiderail and pavement markings.
South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J., is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
