PennDOT to Begin Verree Road Corridor Safety Improvement Project in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is underway for a project to improve the safety of intersections along the Verree Road corridor in Philadelphia.

Under this contract, the contractor for PennDOT will replace the current traffic signals and install seven new ones along the project corridor. The existing pedestal-mounted signals will be converted to mast arms, pedestrian countdown timers and Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) will be added at signalized intersections, arterial signals will be coordinated, left-turn signal phasing will be modified, and retroreflective backplates will be installed to improve signal visibility.

The intersections included in this project are Bloomfield Avenue, Baldi Middle School driveway, Alburger Avenue, Welsh Road, Redd Rambler Drive, Morefield Road, and Red Lion Road.

The project aims to enhance the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and emergency service vehicles, provide pedestrian signals, and decrease the incidence of angle, rear-end, and pedestrian crashes along the corridor.

Wednesday, June 19, through Friday, August 30, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday lane closure is scheduled on eastbound Welsh Road at the intersection with Alburger Avenue.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Tony DePaul and Son of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor on the $6,522,695 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The physical construction of the project is anticipated to be completed by spring 2026.
