King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is scheduled next week at the base of the northbound Interstate 95 off-ramp (Exit 27) at the Bridge Street/Harbison Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Monday, April 3, through Wednesday, April 5, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place where the northbound I-95 off-ramp (Exit 27) merges with Aramingo Avenue and Tacony Street.
Motorists on northbound I-95 in the vicinity of Bridge Street/Harbison Avenue Interchange are advised to remain alert for traffic backups on the off-ramp and to allow extra time when traveling through the work area. Traffic on Aramingo Avenue and Tacony Street at the interchange also may be impacted by this operation. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The work is part of the preparations that are underway to establish a new, temporary traffic pattern on I-95 that will be in place during three-plus years of I-95 mainline reconstruction through the Bridge Street Interchange beginning in early 2024.
PennDOT's I-95 Section BS2 project will reconstruct I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange. The $267.9 million contract includes significant improvements to the interchange and its ramps, plus replacement of the expansive I-95 viaduct over Bridge Street and Tacony Street in Bridesburg.
The northbound I-95 ramp to Bridge Street/Harbison Avenue (Exit 27) is scheduled to close permanently on or after April 18, 2023.
When the off-ramp permanently closes, northbound I-95 and westbound Betsy Ross Bridge traffic heading for Bridge Street, Tacony Street and Harbison Avenue will begin using the off-ramp to Aramingo Avenue (Exit 26 on I-95 North) at the adjacent Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange.
Westbound bridge traffic, as well as traffic from Aramingo Avenue at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange, will continue to have direct access to the northbound lanes on I-95.
Improvements already in place at the Betsy Ross Bridge interchange were designed to replace the closed Bridge Street ramp and improve safety and mobility at the currently congested merge point between the ramp and surface streets at the existing Bridge Street Interchange.
