Temporary Traffic Signals Now Activated on Route 44 in Watson Township, Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that the previously installed temporary traffic signals on Route 44 between the intersections of Furnace Run Road (T-631) and Route 973 in Watson Township, Lycoming County, have been activated and are fully operational. 

A long-term single lane condition exist for motorists traveling north and south on route 44. There is temporary barrier and a temporary traffic signal that will control traffic during construction, which will continue into October. All traffic will now be traveling in the Northbound lane and will have a 12-foot width restriction.  Motorists can expect minor traffic impacts where work is being performed.

HRI, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $11.8 million embankment stabilization project on Route 44 between Torbert Lane and Tombs Run in Watson Township. Work includes stabilizing the existing embankment using a combination of soil nailing, wire mesh, and rock armoring. Additional work includes paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Traffic will be maintained using a single lane with a temporary traffic signal. Work began in the spring of 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2025.
