Route 220 Bridge Improvement Project Resumes Next Week in Lycoming County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists who travel Route 220 in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, are advised that the bridge replacement and rehabilitation project resumes next week. This project replaced the northbound structure carrying Route 220 over the Fourth Street off ramp and rehabilitated northbound structures over Antlers Lane and the Lycoming Valley Railroad during the 2023 construction season. The 2024 construction season will replace the southbound structure carrying Route 220 over the Fourth Street off ramp and rehabilitated southbound structures over Antlers Lane and the Lycoming Valley Railroad.

Weeks of March 18-25

  • On Tuesday, March 19, 2024 through Monday, March 25, 2024, the contractor will begin placing road signs along the Route 220 northbound and southbound lanes in preparation for construction. Motorists can expect single lane closures during off peak hours where work is being performed.

Week of April 1

  • On Monday April 1, 2024 through Friday, April 5, 2024, the contractor will remove the guide rail in preparation to install the movable median barrier. Additional work includes signage placement throughout the work zone. Motorists can expect single lane closures during off peak hours where work is being performed.
  • Northbound traffic will be shifted to the paved shoulders during the week.

Week of April 8

  • Beginning the week of April 8, 2024, motorists traveling in both directions will be traveling on the northbound side of the highway.
  • A movable barrier system will separate the north and southbound traffic. This barrier system will be moved daily to ensure two lanes of travel northbound for the morning commute and two lanes southbound for the afternoon commute. During these times, the opposing direction of traffic will be restricted to one lane.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph throughout the work zone.

Motorists can expect traffic to be controlled by the moveable barrier system until Fall 2024.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays, watch for changing traffic patterns, and drive with caution in the area. Motorists should approach crossovers with caution in the work zone.

Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation is the prime contractor on this $18 million, multi-year bridge improvement project.

The southbound structures are scheduled to be completed by fall of 2024.
