PennDOT Issues Update on Valley Street Project

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on its Route 1005 (Valley Street) highway resurfacing project in Lewistown Borough and Derry Township, Mifflin County. This project will improve ride quality and extend the life of the roadway between the intersections of Walnut and Dorcas streets.

Starting Wednesday, June 5, the contractor will begin milling and paving operations between Oak Street and Ort Valley Road. PennDOT expects this work to be ongoing through the remainder of the week. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours. On-street parking will be prohibited while the contractor completes this work.

The following week, the contractor will install new loop sensors for the traffic signal at Ort Valley Road and complete paving. Flaggers in the roadway will again provide traffic control. On-street parking will remain prohibited.

PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution when traveling through this and all work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up. It also reminds motorists that all construction work is weather-dependent.

While the contractor will still have work remaining on this contract following the completion of milling and paving operations, the remaining items are minimal. PennDOT expects them to have minimal, if any, impact on traffic.

Overall work on this project included roadway reconstruction, building a soldier pile and lagging retaining wall, drainage improvements, installation of sidewalks, curbing and ADA-compliant ramps, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $5.4 million job.
