Bridge Rehabilitation Work Begins This Week in Centre County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will start a bridge rehabilitation project on Route 2011 (Coburn Road) this week. The bridge spans Penns Creek in the village of Coburn, Centre County. Replacing the bridge will improve the structure's rating from "fair" to "good." Built in 1938, the bridge is 119 feet long and carries an average of more than 900 vehicles daily.

The contractor will place temporary traffic signals tomorrow, April 11. The signals will enforce an alternating traffic pattern as repair and rehabilitation work takes place. Message boards are in place to alert motorists to the temporary traffic pattern.

Overall work includes replacement of floor beams and bearings, replacement of rivets with high-strength bolts, concrete repairs, fabricated structural steel repairs, zone painting of structural steel, and miscellaneous items.

HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $957,000 project. PennDOT anticipates completion in mid-July, but all work is weather dependent.

Motorists are encouraged to "Know Before They Go" by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
