Highway Resurfacing in Centre, Clinton Counties Starts Today

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a highway resurfacing project impacting five routes in Centre and Clinton County started today. The project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of approximately 20 miles across the affected roadways.

The contractor started guide rail removal along Route 144 in Snow Shoe Borough and Snow Shoe Township between Gorton and Trestle roads. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal impact on traffic. However, PennDOT still urges drivers to exercise caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits and work zone signage, and always buckle up.

Starting Monday, May 12, the contractor will begin shoulder stabilization. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours. Drivers should build extra time into their commutes as PennDOT anticipates minor delays.

The contractor will also begin removing the guide rail along Route 477 in Clinton County on this day. This work zone starts at Route 880 in Loganton Borough, extending southbound approximately four miles to the Centre-Clinton County line. Shoulder stabilization will follow, with PennDOT expecting flaggers to be in the roadway on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16.

Other roads that will see work under this contract include:

  • Route 45 between Williams Road in Potter Township and Route 2012 (Penns Cave Road) in Gregg Township.
  • Interstate 99 northbound near the Bellefonte-Zion interchange at mile marker 79.
  • Route 2012 (Penns Cave Road) between Ridge Road and Route 2010 (Upper Georges Valley Road) in Gregg Township.

PennDOT will issue updates before work starts at these locations.

Overall work on this project includes milling and paving operations, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., of State College, PA, is the contractor on this $5.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates them finishing the project in mid-November, but all work is weather-dependent.
