Southbound I-79 Paving Begins Monday Night in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing a single-lane restriction on southbound Interstate 79 in Glenfield, Sewickley Hills, and Franklin Park boroughs and Ohio and Aleppo townships, Allegheny County will begin Monday night, September 18 weather permitting.

Single-lane and shoulder closures will occur on southbound I-79 between I-279 (Parkway North) and the Neville Island Bridge weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday night, September 21. Crews will conduct milling and paving operations on mainline I-79 and on the intersecting ramp entrances and exits.

Additionally, intermittent ramp closures requiring detours will occur on the following ramps: 

  • Southbound I-79 off-ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • Mt. Nebo Road on-ramp to southbound I-79

  • Southbound off-ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Continue on southbound I-79 past the closed ramp

  • Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65)

  • Turn right onto Grand Avenue

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79

  • From northbound I-79 take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

  • End detour

Mt. Nebo Road on-ramp to southbound I-79

  • Take I-79 northbound

  • Take the ramp to Wexford (Exit 73)

  • Turn left onto Route 910

  • Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79

  • Follow southbound I-79 back to the Mt. Nebo interchange

  • End detour

Southbound I-79 Off-ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Continue on southbound I-79 past the closed ramp

  • Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65)

  • Turn right onto Grand Avenue

  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79

  • Take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

  • Stay left toward Glenfield

  • Turn right onto Deer Run Road

  • Turn left onto Kilbuck Street

  • Follow to Glenfield Road

  • End detour

The prime contractor on this $26.49 million project is the Joseph B. Fay Company. Work on this project will be coordinated with other projects in the area.
