Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing sanitary and waterline relocation work on Route 50 (Washington Pike) in Collier Township, Allegheny County will begin Monday morning, April 10 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur as needed on Route 50 between Mayer Street and Winstein Avenue through late-November in both directions for utility relocation work and retaining wall construction according to the following schedule:

Monday through Friday

  • 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Saturday and Sunday

  • Approximately 12:01 a.m. through 11 a.m.

  • 2 p.m. through approximately 11:59 p.m.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Flaggers and digital messages boards will assist motorists through the work zone as needed. Crews from Allison Park Contractors will perform the work.

Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Please use caution when driving through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Work on this $5.61 million widening project began in November 2022. The majority of the work in 2023 will be utility relocation work on Route 50 in Collier Township. Work in 2024 will include roadway widening to accommodate exclusive left turn lanes at the Washington Pike (Route 50) intersection with Vanadium Road. Additionally, the Washington Pike and Vanadium Road intersection will be modified to a standard plus intersection, eliminating the existing dual driveways at Eat’n Park. The restaurant will be relocated further back from the roadway to allow for the roadway widening and intersection improvements. Other work includes new sidewalks, updated ADA curb ramps, traffic signal upgrades, signing and pavement marking updates, drainage guide rail work, and other miscellaneous construction. Motorists will see single-lane restrictions with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction at all times. The turn lane and other modifications at the Vanadium Road intersection are expected to help alleviate congestion in this area. The overall project is anticipated to conclude in late 2024.
