I-79 Daylight Improvement Work Continues Next Week in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing daylight paving operations on Interstate 79 in Franklin Park, Sewickley Hills, and Glenfield boroughs, and Aleppo and Ohio townships, Allegheny County will occur Monday and Tuesday, October 9-10 weather permitting.

Single-lane restrictions will occur on I-79 between the Neville Island Bridge and I-279 (Parkway North) Monday and Tuesday for paving work. Improvement work has shifted to daylight operations. Motorists should consider alternate routes. Restrictions next week will occur according to the following schedule: 

  • Monday, October 9 – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on northbound I-79

  • Tuesday, October 10 - 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on northbound I-79 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on southbound I-79

As a reminder to motorists, the following restrictions will occur this weekend: 

  • Saturday, October 7 – 7 a.m.to 7 p.m. on northbound I-79

  • Sunday, October 8 – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on northbound I-79

Motorists are urged to allow extra time and slow down when traveling through the work zones this week. Last year, there were 1,293 work zone crashes in Pennsylvania resulting in 14 fatalities.

The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement system is expected to be deployed within the work zone.

The work is part of the $26.49 million I-79 improvement project. Future improvements include four bridge deck replacements, one bridge preservation, milling and resurfacing, preservation work on seven sign structures, installation of five new ITS signs, guide rail improvements, signage updates, and pavement marking installation.

The prime contractor is the Joseph B. Fay Company.
