Water Damage from Abandoned Mine Closes Route 4027 (Main Street) in Emeigh, Cambria County

Work begins Monday, May 5, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has closed Route 4027 (Main Street) between Harvest Lane and the intersection of Double Dam Road, Route 4025 (Lion Road) and Plattsville Hill Road in Emeigh, Cambria County, effective immediately and until further notice.

Known locally as the Emeigh Crossroads, the intersection of Route 4027 (Main Street), Double Dam Road, Route 4025 (Lion Road), and Plattsville Hill Road is closed in all directions. A detour at the intersection of Laurel Street/Double Dam Road in Northern Cambria Borough will direct traffic north on U.S. 219 (Philadelphia Avenue/Shawna Road) to access Route 4027 (Main Street), with Troy Street, Cherry Street and Frances Street accessible to reach homes beyond the closure point.

Route 4027 (Main Street) experienced significant erosion and damage between Harvest Lane and Frances Street caused by water escaping from an abandoned mine. PennDOT is currently working to notify the local school districts and their transportation companies, as well as borough and township officials of the closure and detour.

PennDOT will continue to monitor the situation and provide further details as they become available. The tentative date for repairs is Monday, May 5, 2025.
