Open house set for Dec. 17; Online plans available for viewing beginning Dec. 15
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a second in-person open house is planned for Wednesday, December 17, for a project to reconstruct the intersection of Route 616 and Route 3024 (George Street) in New Salem Borough, York County. The first open house for this project was held this past summer.
The open house will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 17, at the St. Jacobs UCC, 100 E George St., New Salem Borough, PA 17371.
As an alternative to attending the open house, a separate public plan display will be available to view online beginning December 15, 2025. A comment period will begin December 15 when the plan displays become available for viewing. Comments will be received through January 17, 2026.
The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion at the existing intersection due to the signal timing. This project will realign Route 3042 (George Street) through the intersection to increase the efficiency of the signal timing at the intersection.
Realignment of the roadway will allow for a two-phase signal to replace the existing three-phase signal. The project will include new ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps within the intersection.
The project will be constructed in multiple stages with a detour for Route 3042 (George Street).
Construction is expected to begin in spring of 2028 and be completed by the fall of 2028.

The purpose of the online display and open house is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns.
Comments will be received through January 17, 2026.
