The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advancing the preliminary design for the replacement of the existing structure carrying Route 528 (Arbor Drive) over Big Run near West Liberty, PA in Brady Township, Butler County. Pavement markings, signing, and guiderail improvements will also be part of this project.

Route 528, Section 259 serves as north/south connection between Prospect to the south and Route 8 to the north.

The existing bridge is a single-span, 16-foot long rolled steel beam bridge. The structure is in serious condition due to superstructure deterioration. The deck is in satisfactory condition and the substructure is in fair condition. The purpose of this project is to provide a structurally and functionally sufficient crossing over Big Run that meets current design standards and is safe for the traveling public.

The proposed 16′-0″ wide x 9′-0″ high precast reinforced concrete box culvert will be located in the same location as the existing bridge. The proposed structure will be constructed using a temporary road closure until construction operations are complete and traffic will be detoured to accommodate this closure.
