Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an online plans display regarding the Route 2019 (Nyes Road) bridge rehabilitation project. This project is located at the structure that carries Nyes Road over Beaver Creek in Lower Paxton and South Hanover Townships, roughly 1.2 miles north from the intersection of Route 322 and Milroy Road in Swatara Township, Dauphin County.
The purpose of this project is to replace the bridge deck and superstructure, which was built in 1984, and provide continued safe and efficient crossing of Route 2019 (Nyes Road) over Beaver Creek. The project consists of replacing the existing single span composite box beams with single-span, composite pre-stressed concrete spread box beams. New approach pavement, rock scour protection, guide rail and end treatments, and drainage will be included in the project. The existing bridge and roadway widths and geometry will be maintained.
The bridge will be constructed using half-width construction and will restrict traffic to a single lane using a temporary traffic signal. The nearby Pine Hill Road (T-371) will be closed and detoured during construction. Additionally, Nyes Road will be closed for up to two days over four weekends to remove and install new bridge beams. Access to bicyclists on Nyes Road will travel the same single lane of traffic through construction.
The project is currently in design and construction is expected to take place during the 2026 construction season. The duration of construction is anticipated to last 6-to-9 months.
Information including an interactive comment form, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website clicking on Public Meetings listed under the Resources heading, and choosing the Dauphin County box then the tile marked Nyes Road Bridge Rehabilitation.
The plans display will be held online and at the offices of Lower Paxton and South Hanover Townships. A digital version of the information will be available to view online from approximately May 10, 2024, through June 10, 2024.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.
