Barrier Installation, Lane Shift Planned Wednesday Night on I-95 CAP Project in Center City Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that barrier installation and a lane shift will occur at night next week on northbound Interstate 95 under the $329 million CAP project to replace and expand the covered area over the interstate.

Weather permitting, motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

The barrier installation and lane shift and necessary to construct a safe work zone for CAP construction.

By replacing and extending the cap over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard between Chestnut and Walnut streets, the I-95 Central Access Philadelphia (CAP) Project will improve pedestrian and multimodal connections between Center City and the waterfront. The project has two main components: a new Park at Penn's Landing, and a new signature bridge at South Street, both of which will also extend over Columbus Boulevard to connect cyclists and pedestrians to the newly completed Delaware River Trail.
