King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction activities will continue at night next week on Interstate 476 under two separate projects to improve travel and safety on the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps and bridges in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, September 23, through Wednesday, September 25, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on northbound I-476 between the Baltimore Pike (Exit 3) and U.S. 1 (Exit 5) interchanges for Variable Speed Limit (VSL) installation.
- Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges for paving and tree trimming.
- Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) approaching the I-476 Interchange for bridge repair.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through all the work areas because significant backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The paving, tree trimming, and bridge repair are part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair and improve nearly 17 miles of the interstate from I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to I-95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
The VSL installation is part of a $10.4 million project to install and integrate VSL and Queue Warning (QW) systems to better manage congestion and improve traffic safety operations on approximately 14.5 miles of I-476 in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
