The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and McKean Township invite the public to the meeting about the project to replace three bridges that carry Old Route 99 (T-480) over Lamson Run and a tributary to Lamson Run in McKean Township, Erie County.
An in-person public meeting for the Old Route 99 bridge replacements project will be held:
- Date: May 15, 2023
- Time: 6:00 PM
- Location: McKean Township Municipal Building, 9231 Edinboro Road, McKean, PA 16426
This project will include replacing the existing bridges with new structures specific to their locations. Work will also include new roadway approaches and guiderail. All the bridges are owned and maintained by McKean Township.
Money for the construction is being provided by PennDOT through a targeted effort that was focused on encouraging counties to create new funding for local bridge projects.
The first bridge included in the project is located on Old Route 99 adjacent to the intersection with South Hill Road. The existing structure is a single span concrete encased steel beam bridge that was built in 1913. It is classified as poor condition and is posted with a 29-ton weight limit. Approximately 725 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average. It will be replaced with a precast reinforced concrete arch culvert.
The second bridge is located between the intersection with Golden Road and Stancliff Road. It is also a single span concrete encased steel beam bridge built in 1913. It is classified as poor condition and is posted with a 32-ton weight limit. Approximately 650 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average. It will be replaced with a single span concrete spread box beam bridge.
The third bridge is also located between the intersection with Golden Road and Stancliff Road. It is a single span concrete tee beam bridge that was built in 1941. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 600 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average. It will be replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert.
Work on all three structures is expected to take place during the 2025 construction season.
The same detour is proposed for all three bridges and is expected to be in place for approximately eight months. The proposed 2.1-mile detour route will be posted using Edinboro Road (Route 699) and Golden Road.
