Paving Project on Route 518 in Mercer County to Start Next Month

A $2 million resurfacing project that will give motorists a smoother ride on almost 3 miles of Route 518 in the City of Sharon, Sharpsville Borough, and the City of Hermitage in Mercer County is scheduled to start in June.

The project will include paving of 2.7 miles of roadway from Thornton Street in City of Sharon to Pierce Bluffs Drive in City of Hermitage. Work will also include milling, ADA-compliant curb ramps updates, guide rail improvements, and line painting.

Construction is expected to begin June 9, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by September 2025.

Throughout the project, motorists may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions, and anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Kirilia Contractors, Inc. of Brookfield, Ohio The contract cost is $2,091,690, which is to be paid with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.

This year PennDOT’s Northwest Region expects to work on more than 100 projects. To see a full listing of all the anticipated work, check out the 2025 Construction Book located under the Partner Resources section at www.penndot.pa.gov/District1.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
