Pennsylvania Oral Health Surveillance Plan 2019 – 2024
The purpose of Pennsylvania Oral Health Surveillance Plan is to provide a consistent source of reliable and valid information for use in the monitoring of oral health status and trends of the state and for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to improve the oral health of Pennsylvanians.
Goals
- Create an ongoing, efficient system that provides relevant and reliable data for Pennsylvania.
- Collect, analyze and disseminate data to stakeholders.
- Use data on oral disease and associated risk factors to plan, implement and evaluate the oral health program.

- The Pennsylvania Oral Health Basic Screening Survey (BSS) Report provides a comprehensive overview of the oral health status of third-grade children in Pennsylvania. The findings identify data-driven collaborative strategies and priorities needed to improve oral health outcomes for the state’s child population.
- The 2021 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey of adults provide valuable information that can be used to guide health policy decisions, monitor progress toward achieving national year 2030 health objectives, propose and support legislation, develop public awareness strategies, and identify critical areas for future attention.
