The 2007 amendment of the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act of March 20, 2002, requires Pennsylvania hospitals, ambulatory surgical facilities, and long-term care facilities to develop and implement a facility-specific infection control (IC) plan. Facility IC plans must be submitted to and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The Division of Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention’s IC Plan Review Team is responsible for reviewing and approving IC plan submissions.  The IC Plan Review Team is available to support facilities through the IC plan submission and review process. The following resources have been created to help facilities develop or modify infection prevention and control (IPC) program documents (i.e., IC plan, IPC risk assessment, policies and procedures) and answer questions about the IC plan submission process. Resource content should be used as appropriate and edited to be facility-specific. For questions, please contact us at RA-DHHAI@pa.gov or join office hours

The "office hours" Teams meeting is an open hour designed to provide participants with the ability to dial in or join via videoconference anytime during the hour. The platform is designated for facility infection preventionists or interim POCs to ask DOH plans reviewers' specific questions and offers an opportunity to listen in for the full hour to hear what questions others are asking about the process. The meeting is offered weekly to ensure that facilities have access to reviewers throughout the submission experience.
