One-day, Overnight Detour for U.S. 219 North Exit to Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) in Richland Township, Cambria County, Scheduled for July 21

Hollidaysburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of a planned overnight detour for the Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) north exit from U.S. 219 north in Richland Township, Cambria County, beginning Monday, July 21, 2025.    

From 8:00 PM Monday, July 21, to 6:00 AM Tuesday, July 22, the contractor will implement a single-day, overnight closure of Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) northbound ramp from U.S. 219 in Richland Township.

An approximately two-mile detour will direct traffic on U.S. 219 north to the next exit, for Galleria Drive, and onto U.S. 219 south to the Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) north exit.

Kuharchik Construction, Inc., Exeter, Pa., is the contractor for the $250,000 project to repair conduit and electrical wire for existing inoperable light poles. The work will include the installation of Light-Emitting Diode (LED) highway lighting luminaires to replace the traditional High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) luminaires. All work on this project is expected to be completed by August 1, 2025.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.   

Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
