Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an updated online plan display regarding the Route 22/322 Clark’s Ferry Improvement project. This project is located in Reed Township, Dauphin County and Penn and Watts townships in Perry County.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety along the state highway, improve traffic flow and address deficiencies on the bridges to extend the service life of the structures.
To address comments received during the previous public comment period, the proposed project now consists of a frontage road redesign from its offline location to a now parallel configuration, elimination of the roadway barrier separating the frontage lane and westbound through traffic, free flow left turn movements at the Route 147 interchange from the eastbound Route 22/322 ramp to westbound Route 22/322, elimination of the westbound Route 22/322 off ramp to southbound Route 11/15 to eliminate redundancy, and the addition of the Route 849 (Market Street) bridge rehabilitation over the Juniata River.
The project is currently in design and construction is anticipated to begin during the 2028 construction season.
A digital version of the information will be available to view online, with a public comment through September 8, 2025.
Information, including bridge plans, can be found by visiting the PennDOT District 8 website, PennDOT District 8, clicking Projects Near You listed on the left side of the page, then the District 8 Projects, and choosing Route 22/322 Clark’s Ferry Improvements Project.
