Intersection Improvement Project Continues along the Route 54 Corridor in Montour County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a multi-year intersection improvement project continues along the Route 54 corridor near the Route 642 west (Liberty Valley Road) and Route 642 east (Jerseytown Road) intersection in Valley and Mahoning townships, Montour County.

The Week of Monday, August 11, 2025

The contractor will begin work in the median area on both eastbound and westbound Route 54. Work will be performed during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

Traffic Control

  • (NEW) A temporary barrier will be placed along the Route 54 left (passing) lane median area in both directions between Old Valley School Road and Jerseytown Road.
  • (NEW) Route 54 / Liberty Valley Road intersection.
    • Open - Liberty Valley Road to Route 54 eastbound (right turn towards Danville).
    • Open - Route 54 eastbound to Liberty Valley Road. (right turn towards Milton).
    • Closed – Route 54 westbound to Liberty Valley Road. (left turn towards Milton).
    • Closed – Liberty Valley Road to Route 54 westbound. (left turn towards Washingtonville).
    • A detour will be in place for the closed portions of Route 54 and Liberty Valley Road.
      • Passenger vehicles should use Old Valley School Road.
      • Trucks should use Route 147 north, Route 254 east, and I-80 east.
  • Church Hill Road and Red Roof Road are closed at the intersectiin of Route 54.
    • A detour using Jerseytown Road (Route 642), Bogart Road, Red Roof Road and Sheraton Road is in place. 
  • An 11-foot width restriction is in place on Route 54.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. is the prime contractor on this $29.8 million intersection improvement project along the Route 54 corridor near the Route 642 west (Liberty Valley Road) and Route 642 east (Jerseytown Road). Work on the project includes realignment and signalization of the Route 54 and Route 642 intersection, bridge improvements, including replacement of the bridge deck that carries Route 54 over the Mahoning Creek, substructure repairs, and relocation of the park and ride. Additional work includes pavement repairs, widening, mill and resurface, line painting, and sign upgrades. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in the fall 2029, weather permitting.
