Indiana, PA – , the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), along with industry partners, celebrated the opening of the on Route 259 in Brush Valley and East Wheatfield townships Indiana County.
During a standard bridge inspection, the bridge showed damage to a main truss indicative of a vehicle strike. The District 10 Bridge Unit assessed the bridge and determined it required immediate repair. The bridge closed on May 22 and reopened to traffic on July 11, less than two months after it was closed.
“Completing these repairs and reopening the Heshbon Bridge as quickly as possible was a priority for PennDOT and Governor Shapiro,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “We know that Route 259 is an important roadway to the people of this region, and we are grateful for the folks who worked diligently to make that happen.”
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while we worked to get the bridge repaired,” said PennDOT District Executive Brian Allen. “We thank everyone that was involved in inspecting, designing and repairing this crucial bridge.”
