Resurfacing to Begin on Route 72, other Routes in Lancaster Area

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that resurfacing is scheduled to begin on Route 72, Route 222 (McGovern Avenue) and Fruitville Pike (Route 4011) in Manheim Township near Lancaster City.

Weather permitting, this work will begin Monday, July 7. The contractor will mill and pave from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM Monday through Friday nights for about two weeks. There will be lane restrictions during work hours.

This will be followed by guiderail updates and other miscellaneous work that may require lane restrictions, as needed.

The project limits include Route 222 (McGovern Avenue) between Lime Street and Prince Street, Route 72 between McGovern Avenue and the Fruitville Pike (Route 4011), and Fruitville Pike from Route 72 to just north of Keller Avenue.

This work is part of a pavement preservation contract that consists of asphalt patching, crack sealing and other on call services for sinkhole repair and roadway repairs, along with other miscellaneous construction on various routes in the PennDOT District 8 region consisting of Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor on this $1,510,000 project. All work on this contract is expected to be completed by July 1, 2026.
