    A skilled nursing facility is a place for older adults who do not need hospital care but cannot be cared for at home. Pennsylvania has more than 83,000 beds in more than 650 skilled nursing facilities throughout the state.

    Living at home can be challenging for older adults when they require supervision or assistance to complete daily activities. A skilled nursing facility becomes an option when the level of care needed cannot be provided at home.

    Skilled nursing facilities provide 24-hour, long-term nursing care and short-term options for older adults following surgery or hospital stay.
