Route 2019 Level Road Bridge Project

US 22 Closed Overnight June 30 to July 3 with Detour for Route 2019 (Level Road) Bridge Project in Cresson Township, Cambria County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists that U.S. 22 westbound will be closed from 8:00 PM Monday, June 30 to 5:00 AM Tuesday, July 1, and U.S. 22 eastbound will be closed from 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 2, to 5:00 AM Wednesday, July 3, between the Route 53-Cresson/Lilly exit and the Summit exit.

The closure and detour will allow contractors to set beams as part of the Route 2019 (Level Road) Bridge Project in Cresson Township, Cambria County.

A 2.6-mile detour will route traffic from U.S. 22 east and Route 53 north (West 2nd Street) to Route 2014 (Admiral Peary Highway) and back to U.S. 22 east at the Summit Interchange.

Charles J. Merlo, Inc., Mineral Point, Pa., is the contractor for the $3,994,000.000 project, which calls for the bridge and approach roadways to be raised to increase the under-clearance over U.S. 22. Additional improvements, including guide rail and drainage upgrades, will also be performed. The project has an anticipated completion date of August 2025.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

Additionally, PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.
