August 8, 2025 UPDATE: Work will begin Monday, August 11, 2025. Regularly scheduled Sunday work will begin Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a drainage improvement project will begin on Route 61 near the intersection with Route 487 in Paxinos, Shamokin Township, Northumberland County.
Starting on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the contractor, HRI, Inc. will begin replacement and upgrade work to drainage pipe under Route 61. Work will take place north of the intersection with Route 487. Motorists can expect a single lane in each direction where work is being performed. Work will be performed Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
HRI, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $624,000 drainage improvement project. Work on this project includes drainage pipe replacements, removal and replacement of the centerline curb between Route 487 and Old Reading Road and upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 61 and Route 487. This project is anticipated to be completed in September 2025, weather permitting.
Motorists should be alert, slow down, watch for lane changes, and drive with caution through the work zone.
