PennDOT, Police Announce Aggressive Driving Enforcement Wave

Uniontown, PA – Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) partnered with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Rostraver Township Police Department, and Highway Safety Network to announce the start of a statewide aggressive driving enforcement wave, which runs from July 7 through August 17.

The event, held at the Rostraver Township Police Department, emphasized the dangers of aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, and running red lights.

“Too often, aggressive driving turns deadly,” said PennDOT Safety Press Officer Emily Swecker. “This campaign is about changing behavior through both education and enforcement. Every driver has a role to play in keeping our roads safe.”

According to PennDOT data, there were 62,538 crashes due to aggressive driving in Pennsylvania last year. Those crashes killed 579 people. In Westmoreland County alone, there were 1,507 crashes and six fatalities.

“We’re committed to doing our part through proactive enforcement,” said Rostraver Township Police Chief Scott Sokol. “Aggressive drivers not only put themselves at risk but endanger everyone on the road.”
