Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that resurfacing operations will occur next week on several state highways in Philadelphia under multiple ongoing projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the five-county region.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on Penn Square (City Hall) between Market Street and Broad Street (Route 611) for milling and inlet and manhole repair.
- Monday, September 22, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Moyamensing Avenue/Penrose Avenue (Route 291) between Broad Street (Route 611) and the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge for inlet and manhole repair.
- Tuesday, September 23, through Friday, September 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Chestnut Street between 22nd Street and Broad Street (Route 611) for milling.
- Tuesday, September 23, through Friday, September 26, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Walnut Street between Broad Street (Route 611) and 22nd Street for milling.
- Wednesday, September 24, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Walnut Street between Broad Street (Route 611) and 22nd Street for inlet and manhole repair.
- Wednesday, September 24, through Friday, September 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Chestnut Street between 22nd Street and Broad Street (Route 611) for inlet and manhole repair.
- Thursday, September 25, and Friday, September 26, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of Rhawn Street between U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and State Road for milling.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under these resurfacing and improvement projects, PennDOT’s contractors are repairing, milling, and repaving state highways with new asphalt pavement that will seal roadways and provide motorists with a safer and smoother riding surface.
