A project to repair the bridge that carries Old Lake Road over Raccoon Creek near Raccoon Park in Springfield Township, Erie County is scheduled to start July 7, 2025.
The bridge is the second of two included in the same contract. Work on the first bridge, Evans Road over Mill Creek in Millcreek Township is expected to be complete before July 4.
Work on Old Lake Road will include the removal of the existing asphalt overlay and the installation of a new concrete deck and barriers. The asphalt roadway on both sides of the bridge will also be repaired and safety updates will be made to the guiderail, concrete curb, and roadway markers.
A detour will be posted using Elmwood Road, Route 5, and Eagley Road (Route 3009). It is expected to be in place for approximately two months.
Work is expected to start July 7, 2025, weather permitting, and to be completed in September 2025.
The existing concrete bridge on Old Lake Road was built in 1992 and is owned by Springfield Township. It is classified as fair condition. Approximately 80 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.
The contractor is Thomas Construction of Grove City, PA. The contract cost for work on both bridges is $784,754, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
