Traffic Restrictions to be Lifted on Route 581 in Cumberland County

Pavement patching to continue at night

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that traffic restrictions in place since this spring on a 7.14-mile pavement rehabilitation project on Route 581 between Interstate 81 and Interstate 83 in Cumberland County will be lifted this Sunday night, weather permitting. Pavement patching will continue during nighttime hours.

Weather permitting, traffic restrictions will be lifted from 7:00 PM Sunday, June 29, to 6:00 AM Monday, June 30. This includes removing barrier and temporary pavement markings to restore traffic to its original configuration.

Shoulder closures at two locations on eastbound Route 581 between Sporting Hill Road and Route 11/15 will be lifted. The right shoulder along northbound Route 15 to eastbound Route 581 will be restored to its original configuration, as well.

A right lane restriction will be lifted on eastbound Route 581 on a three-lane section of highway just west of I-83.

Concrete pavement patching will continue between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM Sunday through Thursday nights. Motorists can expect single lane closures while work is being performed. This work will continue between Exit 3 (Route 11/Carlisle Pike) and the Route 581/I-83 interchange.

Travelers should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.

This work is part of a project that consists of concrete patching, diamond grinding and replacement of two traffic counter device locations, and other miscellaneous construction on Route 581 in East Pennsboro, Hampden, and Lower Allen townships, and Camp Hill and Lemoyne boroughs. This work will be performed at night between Interstate 81 and Interstate 83. There will be nighttime lane restrictions in both directions of Route 581.

Kinsley Construction, LLC, of York, PA, is the contractor on this $15,482,961 project.

All work is expected to be completed by September 8, 2027.
