Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) plans to close Interstate 80 eastbound between exits 158/Milesburg and 161/Bellefonte at 7:00 PM for cleanup efforts after a commercial vehicle crash this morning at mile marker 159.
While the road is closed, drivers will exit I-80 at Milesburg, follow Route 150 northbound to Route 64 at Mill Hall, and then take Route 64 southbound back to I-80 at the 173/Lamar exit. This detour is known as the “brown” detour, and PennDOT has signage posted along the route.
PennDOT estimates the cleanup efforts will take until 11:00 PM to complete but says it will reopen the roadway sooner if work progress allows. Its regional traffic management center is supporting this operation by populating the information into 511PA and activating its variable message boards along the interstate and the detour route.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
