In order to complete bridge inspection activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is planning temporary lane restrictions on Interstate 79 in Erie County beginning next week.
Work will occur on the highway between Exit 182 (Route 20/26th Street) and Exit 183A (Route 5/Route 290/12th Street) in the City of Erie from August 25 to August 29, 2025, and again from September 3 to September 5, 2025.
Drivers should be alert for changing traffic patterns and traffic controlled by flaggers.
WSP USA, Inc. will be performing the inspections on behalf of PennDOT for a future project to repair the bridges carrying I-79 over CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads and West 16th Street. Additional information on the I-79 bridge project is available on the PennDOT District 1 webpage at www.PennDOT.pa.gov/District1.
PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
