Salford Street over a branch of the Perkiomen Creek Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Project Overview

County: Montgomery
Municipality: Upper Salford Township
State Route: 1024
Local Name: Salford Street
Project Type: Bridge Rehabilitation
MPMS Number: 96069
Last Updated: July 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is rehabilitating the bridge that carries Salford Street over Branch Perkiomen Creek in Upper Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The existing bridge is a 12-foot-long single-span, stone masonry arch culvert constructed in 1870. The structure is in poor condition.

The proposed project will rehabilitate the existing structure, remove the bituminous pavement and earth fill; rebuild deteriorated portions of the spandrel walls, wingwalls and buttress walls; place lightweight cement concrete fill; construct a full-width moment slab over the structure with integral Type 10M barriers; and repair, clean, and seal the arch intrados. The approach and bridge roadway pavement will be replaced at full depth, and the attached guide rails will be replaced by current standards.

All vehicles will be detoured for the construction of this project. The detour will be approximately 3.93 miles in length and will use Old Skippack Road, Hendricks Station Road, and Colonial Drive.
