The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a Plans Display and Project Presentation for the SR 2010, Section 01B Superstructure Replacement project. The proposed project involves the superstructure replacement of the two-lane bridge that carries SR 2010 (Fish Hatchery Road) and a sidewalk over Little Lehigh Creek, in the City of Allentown, Lehigh County.
This project involves the full superstructure replacement of the existing four-span bridge over the Little Lehigh Creek on SR 2010 in the City of Allentown. The existing line and grade will be maintained to the greatest extent possible. The existing structure was originally constructed in 1939 and is not currently posted. The existing bridge has a total length of 172’, a width of 29’-6” with a 5’-0” sidewalk on the downstream side of the structure. The proposed structure will include composite steel I-beams. The proposed structure will have a 170’ total span length, with a width of 33’-1” including a 5’-0” sidewalk on the downstream side that will be protected from vehicular traffic with a concrete barrier. The bridge sidewalk will tie into the adjacent trail network at a more level grade adjacent to the Fish Hatchery
The project will use staged construction with half of the bridge under construction at any given time. For each phase, the eastbound vehicular traffic will be detoured, and the westbound traffic will remain in the single lane provided on SR 2010. The westbound direction will remain open to provide access for emergency vehicles headed to Lehigh Valley Hospital. The eastbound detour will utilize PA Routes 29, I-78, SR 2005 (Lehigh Street), and SR 2007 (Oxford Drive). This detour route will be approximately 4.5 miles in length. Pedestrians will be detoured throughout construction.
