King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Wednesday, July 23, to reconstruct, widen, and improve the Bethel Avenue intersection with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Cherry Tree Road. The work is part of a $99.47 million project to widen and reconstruct a 1.4-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Wednesday, July 23, through late 2026, Bethel Avenue will be closed and detoured 24/7 through the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway)/Cherry Tree Road Intersection.
During the closure, Bethel Avenue motorists will be directed to use Route 452 (Market Street) and westbound U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway).
Eastbound U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) motorists traveling to Bethel Avenue will be directed to continue east and use the Route 452 South/Dutton Street ramp to access Bethel Avenue.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel near the work area because backups and delays may occur.
Improvements to the Bethel Avenue Intersection include:
- Reconstructing the intersection to provide four through lanes on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and turn lanes to Bethel Avenue and Cherry Tree Road
- Realigning and reconstructing Bethel Avenue and Cherry Tree Road to provide separate turn lanes and through lanes at the intersection with U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway).
- Installing new traffic signals.
- Constructing a Bethel Road connector road to create a new intersection with School Drive.
This project is the second of four construction contracts to improve travel and safety by reconstructing and widening to four lanes a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships.
