    US 219 Sunset Road to Nixon Avenue and Ditter's Curve Project

    Minor Delays Expected on U.S. 219 Between Carrolltown and Northern Cambria, Cambria County, Starting August 18 for Milling and Paving

    The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of minor traffic delays on U.S. 219 from Carrolltown to Northern Cambria Borough, Cambria County, beginning Monday, August 18, 2025.      

    During the following two weeks – Monday, August 18 through Friday, August 22, and Monday, August 25 through Friday, August 29 – contractors will be milling portions of U.S. 219 (North Main Street/Theater Road/Bigler Avenue) in anticipation for paving. All work is weather dependent.    

    Contractors will conduct work under daylight flagging, with the potential for traffic delays not to exceed 15 minutes.   

    As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.     

    Quaker Sales, Inc., Johnstown, PA, is the contractor for the $5,199,141.47 project, slated for completion in the 2025 construction season, which includes resurfacing, base repairs, guide rail and drainage upgrades, traffic signal replacements, and geometric curve improvements on U.S. 219 from Sunset Road to Nixon Avenue in Northern Cambria.    

    PennDOT reminds motorists that as of June 5, 2025, the "Paul Miller's Law" is in effect. This law prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving, even while stopped temporarily due to traffic, a red light, or other momentary delay. Violation of this law is punishable by way of summary citations issued by any Pennsylvania Law Enforcement officer. We strongly urge motorists to make safe choices, put phones out of reach and don’t text and drive.                 

    Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
